ESD – Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection for Early GI Cancers

At Vedanta Superspeciality Center, we offer Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), an advanced, minimally invasive procedure for removing early-stage cancers and precancerous lesions from the esophagus, stomach, and colon. ESD allows complete removal of abnormal tissue in one piece, ensuring accuracy and reducing recurrence risk.

ESD is a breakthrough technique that avoids the need for open or laparoscopic surgery, offering patients a safer, organ-preserving solution with faster recovery and fewer complications.

Conditions Treated with ESD:

  • Early gastrointestinal cancers (esophagus, stomach, colon)
  • Large or flat adenomas and polyps
  • Barrett’s esophagus with high-grade dysplasia
  • Superficial tumors confined to the mucosal or submucosal layers
  • Lesions not amenable to simple polypectomy

How is ESD Performed?

The procedure is done using a high-definition endoscope passed through the mouth or rectum, depending on the lesion location. A fluid is injected beneath the lesion to lift it, and then the submucosal layer is carefully dissected using specialized instruments. The entire lesion is removed in one piece (en bloc), allowing precise pathological assessment.
